The UKAS pilot programme for accreditation of independent inspection companies providing inspections of residential adult social care providers is now underway with the participation of the following organisations:
- CHKS Trading as HAQU
- Healthcare Management Solutions Limited
- RDB Star Rating Ltd
- The Audit People Ltd
The purpose of UKAS accredited inspection for adult social care is to drive up standards, and provide assurance and confidence to customers and the public that the care provider has been independently inspected and is compliant with the rigorous standards used by the accredited inspection body.
One of the key objectives of the UKAS pilot programme is to verify the standards used by applicant inspection companies and their appropriateness for assuring and improving the quality of care provided by residential care homes and other care providers in the UK.
During the pilot programme UKAS will assess the competence, impartiality and the performance capability of inspection companies using the internationally recognised inspection standard ISO/IEC 17020: 2012 (Conformity assessment – Requirements for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection). On completion of the pilot programme UKAS will announce the accreditation of successful inspection companies and their specific fields of expertise in social care such as dementia, learning difficulties, nursing, mental health, domiciliary care etc.
